Residents have found and buried about three
hundred and fifteen corpses of those killed by Boko Haram insurgents in
Monday's attack on Nigeria's border town Gamboru.
The
insurgents who attacked in trucks, motorcycles and three Armoured
Personnel Carriers (APC) killed over hundreds of people and destroyed
more than 200 buildings including the largest market in the community.
Survivors
of the attack on Gamboru, Nigeria's furthest community on the eastern
border with Cameroon, have been searching for the corpses of their loved
ones.
A youth volunteer, Kolo Abbaram, who spoke with Daily Trust said they have been burying corpses since Wednesday.
“We
moved from house to house and have recovered many bodies. Many men and
women were killed and children were also affected. There are many mass
graves now because it is not possible to bury the dead individually. We
therefore put 10 bodies in each grave,” Abbaram said.
Meanwhile,
residents of Gamboru community are afraid of a disease outbreak of
because some of the corpses are rotting undiscovered.
