The Ebola virus has spread to the United States of America as the first case of the disease in the country was diagnosed on September 30.
The infected patient is a man who travelled to the US from Liberia to visit his family but he is said to have shown no symptoms of the disease while in transit.
Here are 10 things you should know about the man who took Ebola to the US:
- His name is Thomas Eric Duncan
- He is a Liberian national
- He is 42 years old
- Mr Duncan worked for a shipping company in Liberia’s capital,Monrovia before travelling to the US on September 20
- He was staying at The Ivy Apartments in North Dallas, Texas with his sister and several young children before being quarantined
- He began to develop symptoms of Ebola on September 24
- He went to the Texas Presbyterian Hospital on September 26 after becoming symptomatic but he was sent home with antibiotics.
- He was placed under quarantine at the same hospital on September 28
- He tested positive for Ebola on September 30
- He is believed to have contracted the disease from a seven months pregnant 19-year-old girl, identified as Marthalene Williams, who he carried because she could no longer walk. She died the next day.
