After a rough few weeks fighting former owner Donald Sterling and his racist rants, the Los Angeles Clippers is finally up for sale to anyone who can buy and raise the team back to stability and success.
New owner and estranged wife to Mr. Sterling, Shelly Sterling will accept offers this week to buy the Clippers and a front runner is a group led by former Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer, according to TMZ Sports.
Shelly had met with Ballmer on Sunday at her Malibu home, and insiders say his group made "a very competitive offer."
Meanwhile, Shelly and her lawyer Pierce O'Donnell have put the word out that they would like to make a deal THIS WEEK and the good news is, the NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is very much aware of what she's doing.
Besdies Microsoft boss, there are reports that there are several other potential buyers in which Shelly is interested, including:
- Grant Hill Group (Hill is a former NBA star who teamed up with investment partners)
- Magic Johnson and the Guggenheim Partners (a financial company based in Chicago)
- Patrick Soon-Shiong (surgeon turned multi-billionaire businessman)
- David Geffen and Larry Ellison
Oprah Winfrey who was an alleged bidder is no longer in the running.
The team could be worth upwards of $1.5 billion.
